AION 2 Beginner Guide: 11 Things to Know Before Launch

AION 2 looks like a modern action MMO but plays by classic AION rules — and the game explains almost none of them. These eleven tips are the difference between a smooth first week and a painful one, collected from the Korean and Taiwan launches ahead of the global version.

October 2026 · Written for global launch

1. Your class choice is permanent

There is no free class change in AION 2. Server firsts and dungeon logs from Korea show every class is viable, but they are not equally easy. If you are unsure, Templar, Ranger and Cleric are the most forgiving picks; Assassin and Gladiator demand good ping and fast hands. Read the full class breakdown before you create your character — rerolling at level 30 costs you days.

2. Pick your server carefully — factions are split

Unlike classic AION, Elyos and Asmodians live on separate home servers that are paired for Abyss warfare. You cannot switch factions without rerolling on a different server, so coordinate with friends before anyone creates a character. The full pairing list is on our server guide.

3. Episode Quests are your leveling engine

The yellow Episode Quests give the bulk of your experience and unlock every core system. Green Regional Quests are optional side content — fine when you are ahead of the curve, a trap when you are rushing. If you fall behind the recommended level, do a few Regional Quests; otherwise stay on the main thread. Our leveling route maps the whole 1–45 path.

4. Do not open reward cubes while leveling

This is the single most common beginner mistake. Reward cubes scale with your level, and there is a weekly claim limit per character. Every cube you open at level 20 is a cube you cannot open at 45. Hoard them until the cap, then open everything — your first week of endgame gearing is already sitting in your inventory.

5. Save your Odyle Energy

Odyle Energy is the stamina-like resource that gates bonus rewards from content. Spending it on low-level activities is wasted value. Treat it as endgame fuel: bank it while leveling, then dump it into level-45 dungeons and gathering where the returns are highest.

6. Ascensions are your real power spikes

At levels 22 and 32 you unlock Ascension quests — "The One Who Hears the Voice" and "The One Who Dreams". These grant your Daeva Wings (flight) and your Stigma slots, which are the biggest power jumps in the entire leveling process. Do them the moment they appear; nothing else at those levels comes close in value.

7. Start your Duties routine early

Duties are your daily tasks and Command Scrolls your weekly ones. They are the backbone of progression at the cap — Kina, materials, and Daeva Pass progress. Build the habit from your first day at 45, and never let Command Scrolls expire unfinished.

8. Kina is tight — spend it on the right things

The in-game currency (officially "Kina" in the global client, though the community says "Kinah") is deliberately scarce. Prioritize skill unlocks, Stigma slots and inventory (Cube) expansions over gear you will replace in a week. Once you are settled, the Kina farming guide covers the Market and the best farming loops.

9. Change these settings on day one

Turn off camera shake, raise your camera distance, bind a target-of-target key, and enable skill queueing — the defaults are tuned for cinematics, not combat. If your PC is mid-range, check the optimization section of our specs guide before your first siege; the Abyss is where weak settings hurt most.

10. The membership is optional, but know what it does

AION 2 is free to play, and the $15/month membership unlocks the Market (player trading), the Kina↔Quna exchange, and queue priority. You can level 1–45 entirely free. Decide after you hit the cap — our membership breakdown shows exactly who gets their money's worth.

11. Redeem the free launch code

There is an active promo code at global launch — TAKEFLIGHTAION2 — that hands out Odyle Energy, resurrection stones and combat scrolls. It takes thirty seconds to redeem in Settings → Miscellaneous → Account. Details and expiry dates are on the codes page.
