All 8 AION 2 Classes, Explained
AION 2 launches globally with eight classes across four classic archetypes. There is no free class change — your choice sticks, so it is worth ten minutes of reading before you commit. Below is every class: what it does, how hard it is to play, how it handles high ping, and who should pick it.

The four archetypes
AION 2 keeps the series' classic structure: two tank-line classes (Gladiator, Templar), two physical damage classes (Assassin, Ranger), two magic damage classes (Sorcerer, Spiritmaster), and two support classes (Cleric, Chanter). Every class can level solo, but they differ enormously in group value, mechanical difficulty, and how badly they suffer on high latency.
Gladiator · Melee DPS / Bruiser
The frontline bruiser that farms in comfort
A durable melee fighter mixing damage, mobility and control. Comfortable solo, strong in AoE farming, and the current community pick for best all-round DPS on Global test data — though Korean dungeon logs rate its real-fight damage below its dummy potential.
| DIFFICULTY | Medium |
|---|---|
| PVE DAMAGE | A |
| PVP | S |
| SOLO PLAY | S |
| PING TOLERANCE | Medium — Melee range forces contact, but generous survivability forgives late dodges. |
| BEST FOR | Solo players, melee fans, AoE farming |
Templar · Tank / Frontline
The only true tank — groups will always want you
The main tank and frontline defender. Slower solo damage is the price for the highest group demand in the game: every dungeon and organized PvP fight wants a Templar. Forgiving defenses make it one of the safest first characters.
| DIFFICULTY | Easy–Medium |
|---|---|
| PVE DAMAGE | B |
| PVP | A |
| SOLO PLAY | B |
| PING TOLERANCE | Medium — Reactive blocks matter, but thick defenses absorb what you miss. |
| BEST FOR | Beginners, group PvE, frontline PvP |
Assassin · Burst DPS
Highest ceiling, highest punishment
A stealth burst class built for deleting single targets. Tops Korean DPS parses when played perfectly — backstab positioning and burst windows can be over 60% of its damage — and punishes mistimed engages harder than any other class.
| DIFFICULTY | Hard |
|---|---|
| PVE DAMAGE | S |
| PVP | S |
| SOLO PLAY | A |
| PING TOLERANCE | High — The most latency-sensitive class: missed burst windows and backstab positioning cost more DPS the higher your ping. |
| BEST FOR | PvP, duels, high-skill DPS players |
Ranger · Ranged Physical DPS
The solo farming machine
Ranged physical DPS built on kiting and sustained pressure. Widely considered the best solo farming class: pull packs, kite at distance, repeat. Gear-dependent later, but the safest and most independent leveling experience.
| DIFFICULTY | Medium |
|---|---|
| PVE DAMAGE | A |
| PVP | B |
| SOLO PLAY | S |
| PING TOLERANCE | Medium — Kiting is forgiving until arena-level play; range buys reaction time. |
| BEST FOR | Solo farming, ranged combat, safe leveling |
Sorcerer · Magic DPS
Top dummy parse, if you can stand still
The premier magic burst class. Second to none on stationary fights and dungeon AoE, but positioning-dependent: interrupted casts and forced movement erase its advantage. Ranks S on Korean PvE damage boards, lower where mobility is demanded.
| DIFFICULTY | Medium–Hard |
|---|---|
| PVE DAMAGE | S |
| PVP | A |
| SOLO PLAY | B |
| PING TOLERANCE | Medium — Cast-based play tolerates moderate latency better than melee combo classes. |
| BEST FOR | AoE damage, burst windows, dungeon DPS |
Spiritmaster · Summoner / Control DPS
The tactician — pets, debuffs and control
A summon-and-control class that trades dummy-parse numbers for real-fight consistency: spirits keep dealing damage while you handle mechanics. Strong solo, valuable PvP control, and one of the highest skill ceilings. Listed as Elementalist in some databases — same class.
| DIFFICULTY | Medium–Hard |
|---|---|
| PVE DAMAGE | A |
| PVP | B |
| SOLO PLAY | S |
| PING TOLERANCE | Low — The most latency-friendly class: your spirits keep fighting while your commands catch up. |
| BEST FOR | Solo play, PvP control, tactical players |
Cleric · Healer / Support
The only dedicated healer — never lonely
The main healer and the backbone of hard group content. Personal damage is the lowest on the board, but party demand is permanent: you will always find a group. Notably, high-ping arena players report support Cleric as the one role that stays competitive on bad connections.
| DIFFICULTY | Medium |
|---|---|
| PVE DAMAGE | C |
| PVP | A |
| SOLO PLAY | B |
| PING TOLERANCE | Low — Healing timelines are more forgiving than burst windows — the community’s go-to role for high-ping play. |
| BEST FOR | Group players, healers, high-ping regions |
Chanter · Hybrid Support
Buffs that make everyone better
A hybrid support weaving buffs, sustain and melee presence. Its value shows on the party’s damage meters rather than its own, which is why Korean DPS charts underrate it while organized groups keep inviting it.
| DIFFICULTY | Medium |
|---|---|
| PVE DAMAGE | B |
| PVP | B |
| SOLO PLAY | B |
| PING TOLERANCE | Medium — Buff uptime is forgiving; melee contribution suffers first on bad connections. |
| BEST FOR | Support hybrids, coordinated groups |
What about the ninth class?
Brawler, the ninth class, launched with the KR/TW Chapter 1 update on July 1, 2026. It is not in the Global launch lineup of eight classes — expect it to arrive with a later Global season.
How to actually choose
Ignore the tier list for a moment and answer three questions. Do you mostly play solo or in a group? Do you enjoy fast reaction-based play or prefer deliberate positioning? And how good is your connection to the servers? A Gladiator on 200ms ping underperforms a Spiritmaster on the same connection every time. Our high ping guide covers this in detail, and the tier list ranks every class by game mode.
